You should do both. The file with VB in the name is for the Voice Board and the file with CPU in the name is the smaller CPU board. Follow this with a normal update to the latest version. You will also need to reload the factory tones.

Hello Murray
Thanks I see the new 8P firmware is up. I bought the programmer and am going to attempt the ISP programming. Quick question, do I do it on both boards, as I see there are two .ELF files? Looks like one for each board..?

Which one should I try? I think the last one is what triggered it..

Try the update again. If the 6 leds rotate even if the display doesn't work then the update is working. VB Comms error is when the voice board cpu does not reply to the main cpu board when it tries to start the tune process.
If the update fails the boards can be reprogrammed using an ISP programmer with files and instructions from me or the boards can be sent back to NZ.

Great to hear. I just bought midi quest 12 in hopes of that. Unfortunately my Kiwi 8p screen went black yesterday after getting a "vb comm error" message during firmware updating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do I need to have them uninstalled and shipped back to New Zealand? I emailed Murray yesterday..
