Hello Rainer,
as Murray wrote some weeks before: he did have only one JX-3P when he
developped the new Firmware. Since this JX-3P had to run with the new
firm ware, he could not compare with the original.
Two or three weeks ago Murray purchased a second JX-3P, so he now is
able to compare the behaviour of his firmware with the behaviour of the
original JX-3P. The next (major?) upgrade will contain an closer
adoption of the original envelopes (and also a corrected envelope
amount, which is much too low at the moment).
And regarding the lin/log characteristic of the envelope:
According to my measurements (which were not perfect) the original JX-3P
provides an envelope, which is a medium approximation to a logarithmic
envelope. The start of the envelope is more linear than at a true
analogue envelope.
This not truely log envelope is responsible for the dedicated JX-3P
sound, which makes the synth perfect for sequencing:

(ignore the rubish talk in between - the example is taken from the CD
from my book).
