I really had a good crack at it with these domestic tools before admitting defeat and taking it to my tech to use his professional level solder sucker. The PCB has soldering on the top and bottom to the legs of the chip, I found trying to remove the solder from the top to be the greater challenge. Cutting trace leads and rewiring to allow the PG300 to still work was straight forward with Murray's careful instructions. Lucky for me I have a tech who I've been taking all my analog gear to and he was prepared to do the job for free. I just removed the PCB board and took it to his shop (Sydney - Australia) On 26/06/2012, at 4:12 AM, Michael Potvin wrote:i actually found it to be quite an intricate job, since the traces on the PCB i worked on were small and fragile, and a few came up when pulling the chip, even though myself and another tech went and made sure each pin was properly desoldered, a tiny bit must have hung on. I had to replace a few traces with wires, not a huge deal. worked perfectly upon putting it all back together :) On Mon, Jun 25, 2012 at 4:08 PM, <enjoyyoursoup@...> wrote:I don't think it's top complicated. Surely an ordinary electrician or somebody who fixes t.v or radio could do it. On 25 jun 2012, at 20:31, Amadeo DeSouza wrote:Hello, Amadeo here, just joined the group. I recently got a used jx3p in for a song and googling and gearslutz led me to the kiwi upgrade, which seems like a no brainer. I was wondering if anyone knew a tech that could do the upgrade for me, as I don't quite have the soldering skills or tools to do it myself (yet!, getting there). I'm in San Francisco, but I suppose I could send just the main board to someone outside my area. Anyhoo… any help is appreciated. Thanks! A ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
