Well, you're partially correct, Murray. There is a diagram of how the pins of a five- and a six-pin DIN cable correspond to one another. Which means, of course, that I need a cable with a six-pin end and a five-pin end. But I'm still not sure how to actually build that cable.
For starters, what parts do I need? My initial guess is that I need a regular five-pin MIDI cable plus a six-pin male DIN connector, like this ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIN-male-Plug-Cable-Connector-6-Pin-6P-with-Plastic-Handle-Adapter-/271028071875?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3f1a882dc3#ht_3871wt_1162 ). But again, that's just a guess.
Once those parts are acquired, I assume that I need to cut off one end of the regular MIDI cable, and that I will find five different wires inside. I presume that I'll need to connect these to the correct pins of six-pin male connector (I'ver never seen one in person, but I assume that there are six solder connection points inside there, one for each pin). But will I know which wire inside the five-pin cable corresponds to which of its five pins? Are they marked somehow?
This is what I meant by "instructions."
