The waveform upgrade is something completely different that hard sync or
pitch modulation.
The DW-series used single-wave wavetables. The big trick was, that they
used adapted waves for each octave, which allowed them to leave away the
unaliasing filter. So the oscillators sound can very bright, if the
filter is completely open.
It is not too difficult to add other waves to these wavetables, if you
obey the rules for the octave adaption. It is a change in the
wavetable-ROM, not a change in the operating system.
As far as I know Chris Strellis also made an wave-Rom expansion for the
DW-8000, but he did not sell it as a regular "product" but
did it only
as custom project, if he was asked for.
