I do like the overall setup of the parameters, it is more logical than it is now, so I encourage it by all means! It's more in line with the JX-8P too. I hope it won't be more button-pressing than it previously was; I can't judge how it would 'feel'. I hope it will still be as hands-on as it is now.
Some remarks/questions:
1. Where have all the Aftertouch destinations gone? In fact, I miss quite a lot of modulation destinations. I think being able to modulate the 3P really makes it an expressive synth.
I proposed a more 'matrix-based' modulation setup a long while ago, but Murray stated that there weren't enough memory slots available for what I had in mind, so instead he implemented the fixed destinations, with (memory saving) switches for each, and the Modulation Depth control for each modulation source. This would obviously require some major re-coding...
2. Can you switch LFO Rate and LFO Delay in the Excel sheet, so the Delay comes first?
3. Will the Patterns be global?
4. If the Patterns are global, I doubt that it will work in practice to store the Pattern Number with a patch ("VCA\Pattern number"), as you will never know which patches a pattern has been assigned to. So when you edit a Pattern, you might not know that certain patches had it selected specifically. That would be a bit like the problem you have on a JX-10, that you don't know which Presets a Patch has been assigned to.
5. I am actually not that happy with the current way the modulation depth of f.e. the Modwheel is implemented. It would be super if every "modulation source-destination combination" could have its own Depth control, like Modwheel VCF ENV Depth (-63 to +64), Modwheel DCO ENV Depth (-63 to +64). If there's enough parameters to store, a setting of 0-127 per combination and "Polarity" (direction) switch might be even nicer. I think a modulation matrix would be a better solution then though.
6. In the explanation in the first msg in this thread you refer to "07 Voice Detune Mode" but in the sheet 7. is "Arpeggio Mode".
7. I miss the Voice Detune Depth - I think this still should be a per-patch setting. Then again, on a JX-8P it is a global setting too...
Some small corrections:
VCF\Keyboard -> VCF\Pitch Follow (or "Keyboard tracking" if you like)
PS: as a former software developer myself, I can imagine how it would feel to see all these propositions flying by and thinking to yourself: arghh, where will it end? and there's even more things to implement that haven't even been completed yet!
So I hope that Murray doesn't feel completely overwhelmed by all these suggestions...
Cheers,
Rainer
