Hi all
I hope someone here might be able to help as I hit a major problem today.
I was finally finishing off my Kiwisix, and my last job to do since I was getting some
slight noise on the line out was to run some ground wires to the
Kiwisix Power Supply as per the Kiwisix Manual Instructions on page
27. I checked these connections thoroughly to make sure there were no shorts etc
and then closed up the lid and connected line out to my speakers.
But when I powered on the synth there was a slow whirring up type of
sound coming from my monitors, as if the power wasnt quite getting to
the synth. Something seriously gone wrong.
So after I opened the synth again and took off all the ground wires
from the boards and the power supply, I then tried again, but the
Kiwisix PSU power light just starts to come on slowly.
I put a toroid transformer in when I first installed the Kiwisix board and Power Supply and until today that was working fine. So I disconnected the Toroid transformer from Kiwisix PSU and tested the output from either side of its sockets with my DMM. With the switch turned ON, both sockets read 21.3v which is ok. But with switch OFF, the sockets both measure 8.5V.
First of all Is this normal? It seems strange that there is 8.5v coming from both power sockets of the transformer when the switch is off, but I am not sure if it was also like
that before, when my synth was working ok.
Next I disconnected all cables from the Kiwisix PSU including the +5v
power cable to KLM-369 and then tried connecting the transformer to
Kiwisix PSU. With switch OFF the light no longer comes on which is
normal, but when I turn the switch ON, the light still doesnt come on.
Again, is this normal due to not having any cables connected other
than the power cable from transformer.
I had literally just finished my Kiwisix synth today, so a bit frustrated now, especially when it was all working fine just before I added these ground wires, other than a little noise on the line out which I was hoping to try and reduce with these ground wires.
The only other thing I had done was the Saw & PW Mod by disconnecting D1 diode
on KLM-366 and have rechecked that to make sure there is nothing wrong there.
So its back to square one now and I have to try and trace where this issue is.
But I am curious about that 8.5v on the output from transformer when
the mains IEC cable is connected but the Kiwisix switch is turned to
OFF.
I would really appreciate any help on this so thanks in advance.
