Perhaps turning the volume up helps
:P
I could barely even see the waveforms in Audacity at normal zoom level.
Is your mixer/soundcard healthy
Those waveforms look terrible, both the Juno and the Matrix ones.
Like synced or something...
Turn the volume up and try bypassing any mixers if there was any.
This recording just seemed strange.

Peter

Re: [oberheim] trying to diagnose generall weakness of my matrix 12
sanity check:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/f8slzb
right channel is Juno106
left channel is matrix 12
both are single saw waves (no sub osc on the juno, only one osc used on the matrix)
filter is wide open
resonance is at 0
all modulation is off

I find that Oberheims (from the Matrix era) are awesome for complex textures and realtime modulation, and while they do (and should) have a respectable low-end, they are not heavy-handed. You can still get some big lows though using the triangle waveform and a bit of resonance like you said. Most of the sound is in those CEM chips and each Oberheim I've heard sounds unique. I have four Matrix-1000s and each one is a little bit different, but they sound amazing all together.
They are unlike other hybrid synths in the sense that there is a little of "play" in the settings and that this, when combined with the modulation matrix, add up to something more like a single board modular synthesizer.
I have no idea about the factory programs for the Matrix-12, but a pair of Matrix-1000s playing the same patch, one panned left and the other right, sounds tremendous! It's a subtle thing, but I expect that you can get some amazing imagery using the same approach. -pc

Hello
I have a Matrix 12 (Voice 1.4) (Main Software 1.1)
I like it but when I listen to online samples they sound much better..
Mine seems to lack "balls".. I have no trouble with any tuning.
But my low end doesn't seem to be there and many of the factory presets don't really impress.
Once thing I've noticed is that when I adjust the VCF resonance, there is a HUGE difference between 62, and 63.. in fact resonance=63 is the only time the synth grows a pair... 0-62 is wimpy, 63 is burly.
Is this normal
I really want to get this thing sounding good!!!
