Have you tried some reset or test mode There must be something like
this...

If nothing helps, it's time to open it, check cables and connectors,
reseat them, also chips in socket (if any), and check the way of MIDI
signal. Maybe optoisolator on the input is dead, or some other
component.

Probably it's normal, when battery is low :-) Maybe it's time for
changing it.
