Michael,
A bad display will not affect the unit's ability to "turn on" unless it is pulling
down one of the power supplies. So I would have your service center try to establish
whether or not the synth is working aside from the display. If it has patches in RAM,
it should make some noise even if the display is blank.
VFD displays get dim and fail with age. If you need a new display for the Matrix 6,
you may be able to get one from Sam at Syntaur.com They bought some old Oberheim
parts and had displays for sale very recently. Something like $60-70 each, so better
to determine if the synth is working first, then buy one.
If you tech has a second matrix 6, he can put the two side by side, and press the
buttons on both at the same time, using the good one's display. That way he should
be able to do things like select the default patch, which will get you sound even if
the RAM patches are gone. If they don't know how to do that, you may want to take
it somewhere where they are a little more familiar with the Matrix 6.

hello to all members of this group
and well wishes to you. as i am a new member i must explain
my reason for joining so here goes. I was lucky enough to
receive a Matrix 6 for free even though it is in the hands
of a service center for repair. I would like to help in the
locating and purchasing of the parts needed to repair this
synth which is in great condition other than an inability to
turn on.at this point in the troubleshooting it seems that
the display board or display chip (i will ask him for the
specific part #) are the problem. What I am interested in
for now is links or persons that may be of help in finding
the components that will be necessary to fix the unit.
thank you for taking a moment to read my post any advice
will be greatly appreciated......Michael
