sorry that I more or less abandoned the thread. Of course I meant a CA3080 there, my bad.
Anyway wanted to let you know that I fixed the issue.
As I was contemplating in my post there are several parts connected to said 3080. Now I had a spare 3080 and put it in and while initially it all looked good after some 40 seconds there was the all familiar smell of an IC melting within. That for me was the indicator that the supply line for the 3080 must have been affected by the short. I therefore took my desoldering gun and replace the transistor and the capacitor connected to the 3080 and that did the trick.
Everything is fine now again, except for a different volume on left and right channels but that is going to be a thread of its own.
