First do the self calibration as described. Maybe that helps. If not put the matrix in the voice display mode, so you see which voice number fails.
Then swap the voice chips and check if the failure moves with the chip.
If it does, replace the voice chip, if not there is something wrong in another place, which will be a harder to find.

is there a diagnostic to figure out which need to be replaced, or is it just advisable to replace them all if you're having trouble
