It indicates that the fader is faulty, you might try to replace it with
an 47k resistor.

As far as I know these might be still available. (Alps 3011 series if I
remember right - my 707 and 727 are boxed with the live gear so I cannot
tell you at the moment.)

Btw the smaller the resistor the lower the signal will be! A 10k or 22k
resistor might be useful as temporary replacement, until you have found
a spare fader.
