Isn't that the same sample used but with different kind of shaping
Something is broken that triggers that sample or the audio path from it.

If there's a schematic available it should be possible to listen with a capacitor connected to a lead that goes to an audio amplifier, your HiFi system or computer line in or whatever you can use. You can trace the audio and start at the source of the sample. If its already dead there it could be that it never triggers to read that sample.
