i talked to an engineer about the rom switching idea using the serial
port switches to just switch between whole chips and he said it
wouldn't work unless i built extra circuitry and stuff. i had already
soldered on a ribbon cable and started getting bend style sounds. so
scrap that idea.
he was enthusiastic about burning eproms though. that would be a
really nice addition. for now i have sockets for the roms and i can
at least open it up to combine one 707 chip with one 727 for a
variety. he suggested putting an extra socket on the rom itself, so
the legs wouldn't break off from constantly changing them. so it's
like one socket soldered to the board and one socket on the chip,
when you stick them together you have a stack of 2 sockets under the
chip.
