One more thing you could try...
desolder the old BD slider..
I can't remember, but if they are like other slider with a metal housing but you might be able to pry the housing open and pull it all to bits.
(I've done this with dud sliders before.)
check for anything obvious.. cracked connections etc.. give it a clean with iso alcohol..
worth a try. accents are good. especial New Zealand ones.
