hi,
austin,
it sounds as if the closed hi hat decay envelope is not working. the
closed and open hi hat are the same sample, just with different decay
envelopes.
you say you think you "destroyed the connections where R123 sit on
the board." does this mean the solder pad
for instance, you think
r123 no longer connects to what it's supposed to
this could
definitely be the problem. if r123 is not connected on one end, the
effect would be like having a huge resistor in there; the envelope
would never go down and you'd hear the whole open hi hat sample. if
this is the case, what you need to do is find the nearest point that
is supposed to connect to the resistor (i.e. whatever is on the other
side of the broken connection) and solder a wire between it and the
leg of the resistor.
let me know if this solves it. you could also just try it out by
sequencing a closed hi hat pattern and probing those two points with
a wire to see if the hi hat closes. i think it's not very likely that
you ruined anything, everything in there seems pretty robust in my
experience.
hope this helps,
greg
