Thanks for the sage advice.
I got around to opening up the 707 today.
I cleaned some black gunk out of all the sliders.
I looked at the main volume slider (4 connections underneath at the
"top" of the slider).
I noticed each had a dark ring around the solder joint.
I desoldered and resoldered these connections and it fixed it!
She runs like a charm now.
This was my first electronics repair and I'm happy. =)
There's just one other minor problem she's got.
Sometimes the LCD goes faint but when I push the front panel (just
underneath the display) the display comes back fine.
I reconnected the LCD to the main circuit board (thinking maybe just
a loose connection) but no luck. Its probably a flaky wire in the
ribbon cable
Or is this a known issue with the 707
