i was having some difficulty with a couple of sounds cutting out when
i pressed on the case and stuff. i opened it up and moved the wires
around a little bit and figured the problem was that they were
shorting against other stuff underneath the hot glue mess. i managed
to peel it off and in trying to adjust the positions better i broke
off the clock input pin for the hi tom. so to anyone who might be in
the process of this mod and already has the pins detached from the
board:
i would strongly suggest super-glueing the pins, leaving enough of an
end exposed to solder to. hot glue wasn't solid enough.
if you have not yet removed the pins, i would suggest using some kind
of tool to slice the board underneath the pins, leaving the pins
attached. with this method, you would then have to look at the
schematic to find out which pins had connections that ran under the
board, and reconnect the other associated circuitry. you would also
have to cut all the traces in front of the necessary pins. the
tradeoff is that you would not have to worry about the pins breaking
off. i would also use a really thin gauge wire; 18 was kind of thick
for me.
i definitely want to re-do the mod this way (to my 727) but i've got
a bunch of stuff to do right now (mid-terms, tour) so maybe one day
soon.
hope this doesn't throw a wrench in anyone's plans.
