Not bad! This afternoon I was messing around with decay pot mods on my
 707. This worked well for the cymbals particularly. A 2.2 M pot replacing
"R126" and 100 K for "R123" does indeed make a tight, short hats. Also,
replacing "R73" with a 2.2 M pot does something similar for the ride cymbal.
Good results on the crash cymbal with a 2.2 M pot wired - one one side -
between "R58" and "C50", the other side connected to ground.
I loved the effect of the shorter cymbal envelopes, especially on faster
patterns. (My 707 goes quite fast, as I connected a 1M pot next to the original
one for coarse control). I really wanted to hear some decays which were much
longer than the original settings! I found that I was able to do this by inceasing
the values of the capacitors between the trigger transistors and the resistors I
mentioned above. These are the corresponding C70 and/or C71, C49, and
C50. These are initially 1 uF, but values from 2.2 to 10 uF sound great. The
larger caps do diminish the effect of the decay pots range for shortening. I am
solving this by using toggle switches to make the caps switched in or out,
depending on the situation. I'd love to use transistors to make a trigger input
for the switching, but I am running out of room as is.
I did mess around with the envelope generators in "IC38" and "IC39"... As I
recall, I tried either a pot in place of the resistor, OR a larger cap- but not both
at the same time. Guess I'll try that tomorrow!
