Subject: 1 Re: New impressive Doepfer modules revealed!!!
hello guys,
just to clear some things out on the new a111/2 dynamic vco:
the module uses a special ic for it's functions.
this ic features not only the vco, but it has also
the vcf, the vca and the panning unit built-in.
since all the parts are already there, they are brought
out to the front panel. the vcf in the a111/2 is similar
to the vcf in the a109, but it is not the same, as the vcf
in the a111/2 can be modulated with the triangle core
waveform in a linear manner. in other words, you can do
linear fm on that vcf and you cannot do this with any other
a100 filter (they all have exponential fm). the built-in
panning unit is basically the same as in the a109, but
again you will use it differently in the a111/2.
in the a111/2 you will use it to create new waveforms.
so after all the a111/2 does not intentionally replicate
some of the a109 features, it just has all the stuff
on-board which is needed for this new vco design,
and it offers the vcf because it is part of the ic
and has that linear-fm-feature.
naturally it is possible to use the a111/2 as an almost
complete synth voice (also a module some people have asked for),
but that was not what dieter wanted to achieve in the first
place. the module should more be seen as a new vco approach
which can "alternatively" be used as a synth voice.
the module also shouldn't be compared with a buchla 259,
as it uses completely different techniques (except that
both have a triangle vco core) and offers completely
different features. i can understand the expectations and
yes, the 259 is gorgeous, but it's really a different
pair of shoes.
best wishes
ingo
