The wording of this confused me for a while too... If I understand correctly, it's fine to override the bus by plugging something into the *front* of a module to give it another gate or CV signal to pay attention to.
What you *mustn't* do is feed two different signals into the bus. Feeding one into the bus, and another into the front of a module that usually pays attention to the bus, is fine. It just ignores the bus as long as something's plugged into the front gate or CV input instead.
I could be wrong though, so check with someone else first. :) But I've fed external signals into my A-110 VCOs, which are on the bus, without blowing them up yet, so the same probably applies to the A-145 LFO, A-140 ADSR and so on.
Hope that helps,
Zoe.
