Please look at the MAQ16/3 info on our web site:
For each of the 3 rows the following parameters are set separately:
* running mode: forward/backwards/pendulum/one shot/random
* triggering advance to next step with external MIDI note trigger
(instead of permanently running clock)
* first/last step
* clock dividing factor (i.e. separate tempo for each row)
* MIDI channel
I suppose that item #2 "triggering advance to next step with external MIDI
note trigger (instead of permanently running clock)" is what you ask for.
The MAQ16/3 user's manual reads on page
"The difference between Clock controlled and Note controlled modes is the
trigger for the
advance to the next step. The Clock controlled modes are triggered by the
(internal or
external) MIDI Clock. This is the standard mode for sequencers. The Note
controlled modes
are triggered by an incoming Note event at the MIDI In. The MIDI channel of
the incoming
Note event must fit with the MIDI channel assigned to the corresponding
row."
I think this will answer your question.
Best wishes
