I also don't use my Doepfer as a Frankensynth. My systems are Wiard,
Blacet, Oakley, Technosaurus, AS and one Cynthia. So if you plan do
use the A-100 as a standalone, I would recommend the following
modules:
- A-107 Multitype Morphing Filter
- A-196 PLL
- A-143-1 Quad AD
Those are IMHO the most unique Doepfer Modules that stands really
out, also against other modulars. I would use the Multitype Morphing
Filter always with a Lowpass Filter afterwards (good is the Doepfer-
SSM, but its a bit noisy). I would also recommend (into the same
frame):
- Analogue Systems RS290 Delay (also a sampler)
- Analogue Systems RS120 Comb Filter
Those two Analogue Systems Modules are really cool too and do stand
out against all the rest. I don't have many AS Modules, so I cant
recommend more. You probably wouldn't buy the very good Bode FS, as
you have a Modcan. I really like the AS Envelopes too. I must admit,
I use my AS Modules mainly with my other modulars (I have a big
Frankensynth-Frame with my Wiard 300, Blacet/Oakley and about 4 AS
Modules).
I wouldn't recommend the A106-1. It is difficult to use it in a
musical way. At least for me. OK for doing stuff to external Synths
or drums, but a bit too weird. Im must say: I am still not sure if
mine is broken, or supposed to sound like that. Mine cannot sound as
a normal filter.
