grand poohbah, eh........ he was pretty good. Ever hear that Brand New
Heavies album he was on
Anyway, I LOVE the Octave Cat. I've only ever owned the SRM models, never
an A-1000 or SRMII. So what version did your boy have Important to know
since......
The original Cat (A-1000) had discrete VCOs and VCF, unstable but hot sound.
" The first revision SRM (series revision model) employed a SSM2040 (REV-1
Prophet5) filter chip, but this was then later replaced with the SSM2044
(Polysix). Thankfully the discrete VCOs were still retained. The final
revision (SRM-II) had both Curtis 3340 VCOs and SSM 2044 filters"
So obviously my point is that Doepfer already has one "CAT" filter in the
A-105/SSM2044 VCF!! Actually the SRMII had the same VCO chips found in the
A-111 too.
I'd like to see a filter built around a 2040 chip but with switchable
stages, i.e. first two poles and the last two poles are switchable between
LP in series and HP in series. This would allow for 24dB LP, 24dB HP, or
12dB BP. Right
later,
nick
