Shit...he did it again.
Dieter Dopefer has pulled a off a big winner with the A-137 Wave
Multiplier. One of the most unique sound modifiers to come
around in some time, and argueably the best waveshaper ever
released IMHO.
If you don't have one - get real. If you do have one, try this at
home:
Tune to Saw VCO's to octaves, mix them, put them both thorugh
one wave multiplier. Settings as follows:
Mult 5.5
Fold 0
Sym 3.5
Harm 5
Level 4
Put the output through a nice, phat lowpass and use it as a gate
- play. You'll freak. Play around with the level setting as well,
you'll get multo timbral variations. Add a little VC to the Sym
knob, even more. If you happen to sport Model 15s, then use the
Morph out and use the same EG opening the filter to morph the
waveshape. wow.
It sounds very wavetable-ish, without all that pesky aliasing.
Trouble in paradise: One thing I wish for is a VC level control
input. Many timbral variations occur based on how hard to drive
the clippers. You can do it with an external VCA of course
leading into the device, but it would have been wack had it been
an A-137 feature.
Even taking that completely personal preference into account,
this thing still is one of the best instruments to hit my ears in a
long long time.
Way to go, Deet!
