 You mentioned the possibility of MIDI loops, which I have dealt with in the past. But that leads me to wonder:
 QUESTION: Is there ever a need to route synth MIDI OUT to Patch Editor IN (at least with my MKS units- 50/70/80)? I ask because my Roland PG-10 (for the D-110) requires 2-way communication between the programmer and the synth. Or is the Patch Editor entirely 1-way (PE OUT to synth IN only)?
