Well, it depends on just how the envelopes are set. If you're doing things with specific envelope setting for when the filter triggers in and other modulators than you need more samples. Yes, many synth sounds from the subtractive period have steady state waveforms, and if you can just set your envelope in the final product like an SFZ definition file then that works well. But if you've got more complex envelope things going on then you've got to use a lot more multisamples to make it sound right. So yeah, you probably won't need 67,100 samples to get it right, especially since there is some duplication in the Matrix 1000 sound set, but it's still a lot of work, not including digging things out of my trailer to pull two units out of a 48 space gear rack.
The big concern is my Matrix6r sounds, as that's a specific map I built using Obiex and Sequencer Plus Gold back in the day to fit the needs of my studio setup, and I have those patches saved on this computer, so if I could find a good stand-alone softsynth that will accept the patch data from OBiex or something similar that'd be best.
And I've had accessibility problems with Extreme Sample Converter, so I can't get it to do much.
