No. You cannot fry it (or better: it would be quite difficult to fry
your sound ROM).
The "glitchy" thing sounds to my like a wrong adressbus or databus
access. Maybe also a short between two databus lines. This is what the
usual circuitbending does willingly. I assume, that you seated a
connector wrong or some part of a connector missed the corresponding
socket. Check the pinheads for bent pins.
