In the case you describe, it is understandable that having the new chords starting that attack stage from a volume of zero is musically disturbing. Because it cuts down all trailing sounds.

On the contrary, if you play chords having less than six keys with the "resume VCA level" you propose, you will get unpredictable results depending of the actual voice selected by the system to render the notes... I.e : if a voice happens to be a voice that was just used, its VCA level would start from current release level but if the voice was not used in the previous chord, its VCA level would be starting from zero. As a result, the new chord will have mixed enveloppes, some continuing, some starting new. This would not be playable in my opinion.

I think you will have to find some other way to master the way the enveloppe restarts : maybe using the velocity as modulator for the attack length (is this possible on the JX3P+ ?) or using an external expression pedal sending the right CC to control that attack time "live".
